General guidelines for selecting cooling fans: When choosing a fan, it’s important to gather the following essential information: 1. The fan’s dimensions. 2. Whether the fan operates on DC or AC power. 3. The fan’s rated supply voltage—for example: AC 220V, 110V, 380V; DC 5V, 12V, 24V, 36V, 48V. 4. The fan’s bearing type—whether it uses ball bearings or oil-lubricated bearings.

The airflow and rotational speed of the fan—for example, how many cubic meters per minute or how many cubic feet per minute. The static pressure value. Regarding bearings, in conventional DC brushless motor designs for fans that use oil-lubricated bearings, the fan blade rotor (often referred to as the "rotor") and its shaft pass through an oil-lubricated bearing—commonly known as a SLEEVE bearing—and are pivotally fixed at the center of the motor stator, ensuring an appropriate clearance between the rotor and the stator.

  Of course, there must also be a gap between the shaft core and the bearing to prevent the shaft core from becoming locked and unable to function. Once power is supplied, the stator—the stationary part of the motor—generates induced magnetic flux lines between the rotor and the stator, and the control circuit then activates the motor to set the fan in motion. Thus, the conventional fan motor design consists of just one fan rotor, one motor stator, and one drive circuit. By means of the pivot connection between the shaft core and the bearing, the motor operates in response to the magnetic field induction.

  Advantages of oil-lubricated bearings: They are resistant to external impacts, resulting in less damage during transportation; they are inexpensive (the price difference compared to ball bearings is significant). Disadvantages of oil-lubricated bearings: Dust in the air can be drawn into the motor’s center as the fan motor operates, mixing with the lubricating oil stored around the bearing to form sludge, which causes operational noise and may even lead to the bearing seizing up and stopping altogether. The inner diameter of the bearing is prone to easy wear, resulting in a shorter service life.

Advantages and Applications of Oil-Bearing DC Fans
