However, in some special environments, the temperature may be even lower. So, are there any solutions available?
In environments with low humidity, special ball bearings are used, allowing the temperature to drop as low as -40℃. However, if the humidity rises high enough to cause water to freeze, the cooling fan will no longer be able to spin. When the cooling fan shows abnormalities—such as failing to rotate or making excessive noise—we’d like to investigate the issue further. But how do we go about opening it up? First, for cooling fans equipped with oil-lubricated bearings or dual-ball bearings, simply remove the retaining ring, and then the blades can be taken out.

As for hydraulic bearings, they’re considerably more difficult to disassemble—most of them can’t be taken apart at all. If you still haven’t pinpointed the problem and need to further disassemble and analyze the PCB board of the cooling fan, you’ll only have to remove the bearing from the stator to get it out. Typically, the specification sheets for conventional cooling fans will indicate that their operating temperature range is between -10°C and 70°C. Within this temperature range, conventional cooling fans are relatively reliable. Now, someone might ask: Does that mean the materials used in cooling fans can only withstand temperatures up to 70°C?
The temperature ranges that materials can tolerate are actually wider than commonly thought. For example, typical ICs can withstand up to 80°C, standard plastic parts can handle up to 110°C, wires can endure up to 80°C, and motor copper windings can tolerate up to 110°C. However, we know that when a cooling fan is running, the motor itself generates heat. The higher the current, the greater the temperature rise. Therefore, in an environment where the ambient temperature is already 70°C, the actual temperature—including the motor’s own heat—will certainly exceed 70°C. Specifically designed high-temperature-resistant cooling fans can be engineered to operate at 85°C, utilizing driver ICs capable of withstanding temperatures as high as 100°C, motor copper windings resistant up to 160°C, wires rated for up to 180°C, and plastic components made from flame-retardant materials.
