As a machine, it’s inevitable that malfunctions will occur. The first thing we shouldn’t do is immediately replace the faulty component. Instead, we must identify the root cause within the DC cooling fan itself. If the fan on the heatsink has stopped rotating, one likely reason is that its rotational speed hasn’t reached the normal level required for the heatsink to function properly. As a result, the DC cooling fan won’t generate sufficient power to operate effectively, leading to slow rotation or even complete failure to spin. Naturally, this will significantly reduce the heatsink’s cooling performance compared to its original state. At this point, we can try adjusting the fan blades slightly to ensure that their rotational speed meets the heatsink’s operational power requirements. Another situation is that, right after the DC cooling fan is turned on, its rotational speed is relatively slow and it generates considerable noise; however, after a while, the fan returns to its normal operating condition. Even after replacing the fan with an identical one, the same phenomenon persists after some time of use. The low room temperature in which the DC cooling fan is located causes the lubricant in the rotating bearings to lose its effectiveness. In such cases, it’s necessary to add antifreeze lubricant to the DC cooling fan and pay close attention to the ambient temperature where it’s used.
If you suddenly notice an unusual noise during operation—noise that’s even louder than the sound emitted by the case’s power supply—it could be due to prolonged lack of maintenance. Over time, excessive dust has accumulated on the surface of the DC cooling fan and in the gaps of the heatsink. Moreover, the motor lubricant in the fan has completely dried up, causing a loud humming sound reminiscent of a motor running at full speed.
