You’ll need to start with the following points:

1. Choosing a fan from a well-known brand—selecting a good fan from a reputable brand—is tantamount to choosing quality, and thus plays a crucial role in ensuring the fan’s quality.
2. When selecting based on appearance, the fan should generally feel sturdy and have a relatively pure color tone (especially gray-black—this is less important for multi-colored fans). There should be no burrs along the edges of the frame, and you should check the thickness of the fan blades (this is crucial, as blades that are too thin can easily break). When you gently squeeze the frame, it shouldn’t deform significantly.
3. When selecting bearings, keep in mind that bearings come in two main types: ball bearings and oil-lubricated bearings. Ball bearings have a longer service life and produce less noise, but they generally come with a higher price tag. Oil-lubricated bearings have a service life about one-third shorter than ball bearings and may start producing some noise after being used for a while (typically after more than a year); however, they are relatively cheaper. Once you’ve understood the points just mentioned, you’ll be able to make your selection more confidently. However, if the price of a ball-bearing fan is similar to that of an oil-lubricated fan, it’s likely that the ball bearing is either old or a replacement part—absolutely avoid purchasing such a fan. As for the bearings used in new products introduced by various manufacturers (unless explicitly stated otherwise as oil-lubricated bearings), their service life will almost certainly not exceed that of ball bearings, and they’re also likely to develop noise during subsequent use.
4. Select once the fan is running normally; when the fan is operating.
a. There should only be audible noise (some high-RPM fans may produce electromagnetic induction sounds). If there are other types of noises, it indicates that the fan’s quality is not very good. For instance, if a 7-centimeter fan operates at a relatively low RPM—say, no more than 3,500 RPM—but still makes a lot of noise, this clearly suggests that the fan’s quality is poor.
b. Firmly hold the fan and feel its vibration. After changing to different viewing angles, your hand still feels exactly the same—this indicates that the fan’s vibration is very mild. If there were noticeable vibrations, they could cause resonance within the computer case. Previously, some users reported loud noises when starting up—this was mainly due to the vibrations caused by the fan’s initial startup.
c. Use force to briefly block the fan’s rotation (you don’t need to cut off the fan blades) for about one minute. Then, touch the center of the fan blades with your hand to feel their temperature. If the temperature is high and exceeds the safe limit, this precaution can prevent the fan from being damaged when it gets stuck, thus avoiding a potential fire hazard.
