How to Choose a DC Cooling Fan?

There are many brands of cooling fans available on the market, and if an inexperienced buyer tries to purchase one, it can be quite difficult to tell the difference between good-quality and poor-quality models. So how can you actually tell the quality of DC cooling fans? Below, we’ll show you a few key points to look for:
Frame: Frames can be made of either aluminum alloy or plastic. However, standard AC fans typically use aluminum alloy frames, while DC fans usually feature plastic frames (the DC fan frame for model 1751 is made of aluminum alloy). Even among aluminum alloy frames, there are variations in thickness—some are thicker, others thinner. Moreover, the central shaft inside the aluminum alloy frame is critically important. Top-tier cooling fan manufacturers all use copper central shafts, whereas lower-quality cooling fans generally employ aluminum alloy shafts.
Circuit board: The circuit boards of good-quality cooling fans are relatively complex, and the materials used are obviously distinguishable at a glance. They contain a great many tiny components, whereas inferior cooling fans have very few parts and feature a seemingly simple circuit layout.
Copper wires: High-quality cooling-fan copper wires are relatively thick and robust, and they’re wound manually. In contrast, the copper wires in low-quality cooling fans are extremely thin—though this comparison applies only within the same product category. The smaller the fan, the thinner its copper wires tend to be. High-quality fans use thick conductors, whereas low-quality fans typically have just a single, very thin, and simplistic conductor.
Wires: The wires inside a good cooling fan are composed of numerous fine wires intertwined with each other. As a type of electronic component that never degrades, the cooling-fan industry is teeming with manufacturers—and naturally, the quality varies widely. We can assess the quality of a cooling fan from two perspectives: first, whether its specifications meet the required standards; and second, whether the materials used in its construction are of high quality. While the specifications can be tested, assessing the materials requires a professional eye and expertise.
Ball bearings: There are quite a few types available—just remember this: ball bearings with balls are much better than those containing oil.
Material of the fan blades: This is also easy to identify—high-quality cooling fans typically use standard steel stators, which are very sturdy.
Motor diameter: Due to the presence of the motor and bearings, the central region of the DC fan’s spindle inevitably has a blind zone where no airflow passes. The diameter of the spindle will determine the size of this blind zone. The spindle diameter largely depends on the power rating of the fan motor—the higher the motor power, the larger the stator winding coils required, which in turn occupy more space. In the absence of longitudinal shrinkage (an increase in height), the spindle must therefore undergo lateral shrinkage (a reduction in area).
Blade curvature: In DC axial fans, in addition to having a certain degree of curvature in the cross-section, the blades do not extend vertically along the radial direction on the airfoil plane; instead, they slightly extend toward the direction of rotation.
