AC fan and DC fan Which one is better?
When choosing a cooling fan, we mainly have two different types: DC fans and AC fans. Which one is better? Let’s take a moment to share the characteristics of these two types of fans.
1. Power supply method: AC fans can be directly connected to mains power, such as 220V or 110V. In contrast, DC fans require power obtained after rectification and voltage transformation from the mains, such as 12V or 5V DC.
2. Service life: For AC and DC fans using the same type of bearing, there isn't much difference in service life—primarily depending on the type of bearing used.
3. Airflow: For cooling fans of the same specification (such as 12038), DC fans, with their slightly longer blades, can achieve higher rotational speeds. As a result, DC fans generally have a greater airflow compared to other types of fans.
4. Efficiency: DC fans have low efficiency. For example, a 12038 DC fan spins at 2600 RPM and consumes 30W of power, whereas the same DC fan, spinning at 2600 RPM, consumes only 6W yet delivers a significantly greater airflow.
5. Cost: Assuming convenient access to power, for just two individual fans of the same specifications, a DC fan is slightly cheaper than an AC fan.
6. Safety: AC fans operate on mains voltage, which constitutes a dangerous voltage. If accidentally touched, they pose a life-threatening risk. In contrast, DC fans, even at 48V, are safe to handle.
