First, DC fan External Terminal Voltage Speed Control: This speed-control method was widely used in the earliest speed-regulation schemes. The ability to adjust the speed stems from the wide voltage tolerance range of DC fans. DC fans have a relatively broad voltage tolerance range—when the rated voltage is at 50%, they can still operate normally, and the terminal voltage directly determines the fan speed. Consequently, most early speed-control systems employed this approach. At the same time, this speed-control method is simple and low-cost.
Second is DC fan Internal logic control circuit speed regulation: This method achieves speed adjustment by adding a speed-control signal to the DC fan. The speed-control signal can be a pulse-width modulation signal, a Vsp signal, an adjustable resistor, or a temperature-controlled resistor, among others. This type of speed regulation is the most recent development.
III. Comparison of the Advantages and Disadvantages of Two Speed Control Modes:
1. Advantages of terminal voltage speed control: The circuit is simple—speed control can be achieved simply by adjusting the terminal voltage; it offers excellent speed control performance and low cost.
2. Disadvantages of terminal voltage speed control: The speed regulation range is limited. The adjustment range of the terminal voltage must ensure that the DC fan operates within its normal range (typically within 50% of its rated value). In many applications requiring a wide speed regulation range, this method cannot meet the speed control requirements.
3. The advantage of this invention is its wide speed-regulating range—essentially, it enables DC fans to adjust their speeds from 0 to their maximum speed without affecting the normal operation of the DC fan even at the lowest speed setting.
4. Disadvantages of the internal logic control speed regulation method for DC fans: The circuit structure is complex and the cost is high. Typically, the interface circuit is designed as an integral part of the client-side circuit.
IV. Internal Logic Control of DC Fans: The types of speed control signals include pulse-width modulation signals, voltage-source speed control signals (VSP), adjustable resistors, temperature-controlled resistors, and other input options. The specific type of input signal to be selected depends on the signals that the customer’s control system can provide.
