Consequently, most early speed adjustments were carried out in this manner. At the same time, this speed-control method is simple and cost-effective.

The speed-control signal can be a PWM signal, a Vsp signal, an adjustable resistor, or a temperature-controlled resistor, among others. This speed-regulation method is one of the most advanced speed-control techniques available.
III. Comparison of the Advantages and Disadvantages of Two Speed Regulation Methods:
1. Advantages of terminal voltage speed control: The circuit is simple—speed control can be achieved simply by adjusting the terminal voltage; it offers excellent speed regulation performance and low cost.
2. Disadvantages of terminal voltage speed control: The speed regulation range is limited. The adjustment range of the terminal voltage must ensure that the DC fan can operate normally (typically within 50% of its rated value). This method cannot meet the requirements for speed regulation.
3. The internal logic-based speed control method for DC fans has the advantage of a wide speed regulation range—allowing the speed to be adjusted from 0 up to the DC fan’s maximum speed—while ensuring that the fan’s normal operation at the minimum speed remains unaffected.
4. Disadvantages of internal logic-based speed control in DC fans: The circuit structure is complex and the cost is high. Typically, the interface circuit is designed as a whole in conjunction with the customer’s circuitry.
4. Types of speed-control signals for internal logic control of DC fans: The input signals for speed control mainly include PWM signals, VSP (analog signal) speed-control signals, adjustable resistors, and temperature-controlled resistors. The specific input signal to be selected should be determined based on the signals provided by the customer’s control system.
