As is well known, in the traditional DC brushless fan In motor design, the fan blade rotor and its shaft core pass through an oil-impregnated bearing, commonly referred to as a sleeve bearing. So what are the advantages and disadvantages of DC fans equipped with oil-impregnated bearings? The following outlines the pros and cons of DC fans using oil-impregnated bearings.
The DC fan’s pivot is fixed to the motor stator base, ensuring an appropriate gap between the rotor and the stator. Of course, there must be a clearance between the shaft core and the bearings to prevent the shaft core from becoming locked and thus unable to function. In the motor stator structure, some stators generate induced magnetic flux lines between the rotor and the stator once power is applied. The control circuit then drives the fan motor into operation. Therefore, the conventional fan motor architecture requires only one fan blade rotor, one motor stator, and one drive circuit, and operates via the pivot connection between the shaft core and the bearings, leveraging magnetic field induction.
Advantages of oil-lubricated bearings:
1. The price is much lower than that of ball bearings.
2. Resistant to external impacts, resulting in fewer damages during transportation.
Disadvantages of oil-lubricated bearings:
1. The product cannot be used if carried.
2. Due to the obstruction caused by oil seals and washers at both ends of the bearing, high-temperature gases generated by friction between the motor’s rotating shaft and the bearing form nitrides, which easily clog the gap between the shaft and the bearing, thereby hindering the smooth operation of the motor.
3. Due to the operation of the fan motor, dust in the air is drawn into the motor’s core and mixes with the lubricating oil stored around the bearings, forming sludge that causes operational noise and can even lead to jamming.
4. The bearing has a small clearance with the shaft core, resulting in poor activation performance of the motor.
5. The inner diameter of the bearing is prone to wear, resulting in a short service life.

Advantages and Applications of Oil-Bearing DC Fans

Of course, there must also be a clearance between the shaft core and the bearings to prevent the shaft core from becoming locked and thus unable to function. The stator structure of the motor—hereafter referred to as the "stator"—is designed in such a way that, once power is supplied, an induced magnetic field will be generated between the rotor and the stator. The control circuit then drives the electric fan motor into operation. Therefore, in the conventional fan motor design, as long as the fan rotor, the motor stator, and the drive circuit work together via the pivot joint between the shaft core and the bearings and through magnetic field induction, the motor can operate effectively.
