The electronics industry is constantly evolving, and many electronic products are becoming increasingly widespread, driving a growing demand. So, what exactly are the advantages of DC cooling fans that make them so popular and sought-after among merchants?
Advantages of DC cooling fans:
1. The inverter has low cost and low capacity.
The current rating for an inverter when it continues to operate refers to the peak value of a square-wave current. Induction motors require sinusoidal current, whereas DC motors demand square-wave current. The current rating of an inverter under continuous operation typically refers to the effective value of this sinusoidal waveform. To maintain the inverter’s ability to precisely control the motor current, there should be a sufficient voltage difference between the inverter’s DC bus voltage and the motor’s back EMF. Under these conditions, if we assume that the peak currents of both the DC motor and the induction motor are equal, the former’s power output will be 33% higher than the latter’s. In other words, the same rectifier/inverter can drive a brushless DC motor with an output power that is 33% greater than that of an induction motor.
2. High power factor
Its power factor is significantly higher than that of induction motors, because the excitation magnetic field of a DC motor does not require reactive current from the power grid. A DC motor can operate at a power factor of 1, which is particularly advantageous for low-power motors. Compared to induction motors, DC motors not only exhibit higher efficiency and power factor at rated load but also offer greater advantages when operating under light loads.
3. Low loss, high efficiency
The losses caused by the excitation current in induction motors are eliminated. Meanwhile, permanent-magnet DC motors operate in synchronous mode thanks to the use of permanent magnets for excitation, thereby eliminating the frequency-dependent core losses in the rotor of induction motors. These two factors result in significantly higher operating efficiency for permanent-magnet DC motors compared to induction motors, with even more pronounced efficiency improvements observed in small-capacity motors.
4. Excellent speed regulation performance and simple control.
The speed control of DC fans is not only simple but also offers superior performance compared to the variable-frequency speed control of induction motors. Thanks to these advantages and characteristics, DC cooling fans are ideally suited for use in the electronics industry and mechanical equipment. Moreover, their compact and convenient design has made them increasingly widespread. As electronic products continue to develop rapidly, cooling fans will undoubtedly assume an even more dominant role and become an indispensable component of electronic devices.
