The dust intake occurs primarily in two ways: one is into the bearing, and the other is into the space between the rotor and stator. The intake of dust inevitably affects the cooling fan to some extent. Common practices typically focus on addressing this issue from the following two aspects.
1. During design, increase the height of the outer frame where the motor is mounted, so that the motor can be recessed deeper, reducing the gap between the stator and rotor and minimizing dust ingress.
2. It uses dual ball bearings, which have a certain degree of dust resistance and are less susceptible to severe interference.
In addition to the two aforementioned approaches for dust protection directly on the cooling fan itself, installing a dust-filter mesh on the fan is also a highly effective method. Since cooling fans with built-in dust protection are produced in small quantities and most manufacturers do not have molds specifically designed for them, adding a dust-filter mesh without requiring mold modification is a particularly viable option.
For DC cooling fan manufacturers, ensuring that the fans can effectively provide ventilation and heat dissipation is the primary consideration. However, the ability to maintain the fans’ intended functionality over a long period—reliability—is an equally important factor in gauging a cooling fan manufacturer’s strength. The reliability of cooling fans takes into account the following factors:
1. Temperature Rise: This refers to the temperature rise caused by the ambient temperature and the motor's own temperature. Typically, during operation, the temperature rise of a motor should not exceed 110 degrees Celsius.
2. Current: The chip’s current-handling capability must be fully considered. During design, the actual current will be lower than the chip’s rated current.
3. Voltage Resistance: Regarding the voltage stability of customer products and the voltage tolerance of cooling fans, some products have unstable voltages that tend to be higher than expected.
4. Anti-interference: For some products, the environment where the cooling fan is installed has strong static electricity, so protective measures need to be taken for the cooling fan.
5. Waterproofing: For some products that operate in humid environments or underwater, we need to consider the waterproof rating of the cooling fan.
The five points mentioned above are reliability factors that must be considered for the cooling fan itself. In addition to these, there are also installation-related factors and odor-related factors that require adjustments to the cooling fan.
